Late December 2016, NASCAR officially announced that Monster Energy would be the premier title sponsor that would replace the outgoing Sprint Series Cup.
Some other notable changes to the NASCAR season is the introduction of the 3 heat format of the races that will have points for individual heat winners that contribute to the overall scoring for the race. Although the last heat will have more points to the winner, the first two heats would encourage more of the action often seen towards the last laps of the race.
NASCAR continues to test out new rules and formats to entice the dwindling number of viewers. While the fans have mixed reactions, we do give props to NASCAR for trying to change it up to attract new cars.
