It’s no secret than race cars have been getting faster and faster. However, with new discussions around increasing the engine output for the Indycar league, we decided to look at the lap times over the years. Look below to see the increase in lap times!
Something interesting happens when you look at the graph. From about 1990, the lap times and lap speed haven’t changed as dramatically as the years prior. What is this due to? Mainly the horsepower limit in the Indycars. While safety regulations, as well as engine size changes have been made, the overall output has remained steady.
We’re interested to see what these graphs might look like if the discussion around engine output increases leads to league changes.
